The Zodiac cup and saucer set dates from the late 2010s and was made in China for the Goth apparel and lifestyle marketing company Killstar. Like all Killstar goods, it features somewhat jumbled bold black-and-white graphics borrowed from European and American originals, with wording in English. In the case of the Zodiac set, we have a the signs of the zodiac in both the cup; and saucerwith a lunar symbol at the bottom of the cup. The way in which the lettering and symbols are displayed mark this set as the product of Chinese designers who are not particularly familiar with English or American astrology cups and saucers. However, to my great surprise, the waning cresent Moon in the cup is a rip-off of the logo of a comic book called Eclipse Comics, where i was the editor-in-chiief for a number of years. The oriinal logo deisn for the Eclipse line was by the American letterer Tom Orzechowski. Small world!
