The Tea Leaf Reading Community

Fortune Telling Tea Cups appeal to four social communities, namely:

  • Those who perform divinations with tea leaves
  • Those who are sitters or querents of tea leaf readers
  • Those who collect fancy and novel tea cups
  • Those who collect the tools of divination in general

Many people (myself included) belong to more than one of these four communities -- and these links will help you find more information about all four communities.

Divination with Tea Leaves

Here is a brief article article i wrote in 2009 which you can use to learn the art of tasseomancy:

You may read more about tasseomancy at the free web site maintained for public education and outreach by the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers:

Getting a Tea Leaf Reading

The following members of the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers perform tasseomancy (tea leaf readings) for clients:

To schedule a tea leaf reading with any of these diviners, click the link and then, under their picture, click "Book a Reading." You will be taken to a page where their rates are listed and you may then pay by Paypal.

In the past, and perhaps at a few places at the present time, a sitter could get free tea leaf readings from the waitresses at a "Gypsy" themed tea room, cafe, or restaurant. I have collected some memorabilia about this old-time practice here:

Collecting Fortune Telling Cups

If you buy or sell antique fortune telling tea cups and saucers, you might want to know how to safely pack them for shipping. This page, which i wrote in 2009, will tell (and show) you the realities of packing tea cups:

As the proprietor and docent of The Museum of Fortune Telling Tea Cups and Saucers, i do occasionally sell antique, vintage, and new fortune telling cups. Please find a list of cups and saucers that are for sale at our Gift Shop.

And please understand that any cup you see in the Museum, but that is not listed for sale in the Gift Shop is ... not for sale. I only sell duplicates from my collection.

Collecting the Tools of Divination

The Yronwode Institution for the Preservation and Popularization of Indigenous Ethnomagicology (YIPPIE) maintains a large physical collection of divination tools of all types. In addition, YIPPIE publishes online bibliographies of books that deal with various forms of divination, for the use of scholars and enthusiasts.

In addition, my shop, The Lucky Mojo Curio Co., sells many types of divination tools from a variety of cultures, including playing cards, tarot cards, oracle cards, Ouija spirit boards, pendulums, crystal balls, scrying stones, rune sets, and books on how to become a fortune teller. These are offered to the public here:
